Free Project: Fright Night

We asked our designer Ady Braddock about his favourite project of 2018!

Explore the darker side of miniatures by creating a 1/12th scale coffin for your fright night scene.

Ady Braddock:

"There's lots of little elements in this issue that I loved! I actually have two top projects, ‘Fright Night’ and ‘Cash for Cadavers’, both which feature gorgeously ghastly graphics."

1 Using the templates provided, cut all of the pieces from 2mm thick sheet wood. Distress the edges of each side panel and lid, using your craft knife. It’s up to you how creepy and battered you’d like your  miniature addition to be but be sure to leave enough edge surfaces for gluing.

STEP 1

2 Apply glue to the corresponding edges and leave to dry. Once ready to be handled, glue each side piece to the edge of the coffi n base (template piece A).

STEP 2

3 Position and glue the supports in each corner, in addition to the centre of both longer sides.

STEP 3

4 Place the coffin lid (template piece B) in position and mark 15mm in from each side for the hinges. Secure these in place using the supplied pins.

STEP 4

5 Using various shades of brown acrylic paint, stain all surfaces with a wash of colour - not forgetting the visible portions of the distressed edges - and leave to dry.

STEP 5

6 Line the coffi n and lid with your chosen fabric, securing it in place using a touch of glue.

STEP 6

7 Lay your doll inside and position the lid as desired before adding to your Halloween scene.
