How to create a miniature copper garden fork and spade

In another instalment of our miniature polymer clay garden series, Candy Chappill shows you how to make some very realistic looking essential garden tools using dowel and polymer clay in these easy to follow step-by-steps.

You will need

Copper Art Clay
Roller
Spacers 1.5mm
Tuff non-stick card
Olive oil
Cutting tool
Curved objects
Sanding pad 180 grit
Sanding flexi file
Paintbrush
Firing method
Brass brush
Wooden dowel
Hammer
Superglue

Method

1. Roll out your clay 1.5mm thick and carefully cut around the templates. Use olive oil on your cutting tool to make it easier.

2. Once cut out, carefully place the two handles and spade head over something curved to dry, to give a slightly domed effect.

3. Leave your fork head over something curved also, but rotated 90 degrees, so it dries domed horizontally not vertically.

4. Once all pieces are dry, refine them using a sanding pad and file. You might want to use a baby wipe on the delicate fork head.

5. Glue the handles to the heads by applying some water to the areas, leave to soak in for a few minutes, then join pieces and apply gentle pressure.
